Tundra from Avalanche Pass above Marble
This one was taken during an amazing two-week, in-state trip in the latter part of July and into August, 2009. I had just finished a 30-mile, five-night backpacking trip over four mountain passes around the Maroon Bells out of Aspen the day before. After I finished that trip, I drove a couple miles so I could start up to the very impressive Avalanche Pass, which is as good as any 360-degree view as I've seen in the state. This picture was taken the following morning from above the pass looking down on a section of tundra. I immediately fell in love with this scene as I was viewing it through the camera's viewfinder. I just really like the tilted face with the vibrant green tundra catching the morning sun.
