Sunset, Great Sand Dunes, near Mosca
Valentines Day, 2009, I had one of the most memorable sunsets I have ever experienced in Colorado. All day, there was a huge and thick cloud bank just hanging over the Sangres with totally clear skies over everything else to the west. I knew I'd be in for a treat come sunset time as the clouds gave no indication of clearing, unlike the vast majority of the time. Sure enough, I was treated to an unbelievable light show. I got a number of other shots closer to sunset with orange and red clouds, but prefer this one for the warm golden sand. Also adding a welcome effect was the fairly strong wind that was whipping us once we crested the final ridge and is causing the glow at the edge of the foreground ridge as the sand is flowing by just above the surface.
