Taken on a two-night backpacking trip to Ice Lake Basin outside of Silverton in late July, 2008, this is about as good as Colorado scenery gets. This was taken on the first morning. While my friend, Jimmy Gekas, and I enjoyed intense alpenglow at sunrise with subtle clouds, I slightly prefer this lighting taken after the upper basin received full sun. This scene has some of my favorite mountain light—nice soft light saturating the green tundra that is much enhanced with the darker gray clouds behind making the whole scene come alive. It's really tough beating summer mornings in the mountains like this.
