Wildflower candy land, Governor Basin, above Ouray

One of my favorite spots in Colorado, and for sure one of my favorite wildflower destinations, is Governor Basin near Ouray. Immediately adjacent to the south of the far more popular Yankee Boy Basin, the views from here are even better. This shot, taken in 2007, was taken after a daily thunderstorm that the area sees like clockwork in the summer. You can still see the water droplets on the leaves. Overcast conditions accentuate flower colors, and the clouds shrouding Mt. Sneffels (14,150') in the background show signs of the clearing storm. Stony Mountain (12,693') is on the right. There's nothing like spending many quiet hours in an alpine environment taking in the views like this.
