Maroon Lake under the famed Maroon Bells near Aspen

This was taken on Saturday morning, September 23rd, 2006. This weekend was very memorable for a lot of people, primarily for that Sunday that saw a crystal clear, rich blue sky morning revealing the white Bells in a breathtaking scene. An unusual early big snowstorm had just finished that Friday and had covered most of the Colorado mountains with at least 4" of snow, and most places receiving at least 8". My friend, Brent Doerzman, and I drove to Maroon Lake on that Friday night with many tree branches leaning out and onto Maroon Creek Road. This was taken the next morning while the clouds were still trying to work on clearing out. We didn't get any light on the Maroon Bells as the day remained completely overcast, but we still had great conditions to work with. Up until this particular weekend, I didn't have any real winter-looking scenes during peak fall color, and by the end of it, I amassed a pretty decent collection. I really love this silvery scene with the blanketed trees, the yellow and red punches of color, and the dreamy reflection. This would be a perfect candidate printed huge to 40x50", but I've yet to do this for myself quite yet.
