Day 27 of 44 >>
I had the alarm set
for 6:35. The skies were clear when I went to bed around 11:00, but it
was completely overcast now. I did get to sleep in because of this which
I greatly enjoyed. I woke up around 10:00. There were a couple of patches
of blue that were visible through a thin fog layer and some sun was shining
through at 10:30.
I changed out eight
film holders (minus one sheet). The sky was gradually opening up and it
eventually became mostly sunny. I headed out around 11:50, and as I was
driving down the Moab Lake Road, there was a wolf walking in the same
direction. I had seen a couple others to this point, but this one was
a lengthy viewing as he was in no hurry to run off in the forest.
At 2:18,
I stopped at a pullout along 93A where I shaved, made a couple of sandwiches,
and sat around for awhile as I was basically just waiting around for late
afternoon and sunset. So, after doing basically nothing all day, at 4:30,
I finally went and shot along the Athabasca River where there is an open
view of the Endless Chain Ridge to the south. The sun would come out every
now and again and light up some areas, which made for some nice imagery,
and I had some cool skies and clouds at sunset. I went ahead and put up
a number of similar shots below from the afternoon since I didn't have
anything else from the day.
After sunset, I went
to the Athabasca Falls parking lot and called my sister to wish her a
happy birthday, but there was no answer. I headed further down the road
closer to camp, where I would stay at the Moab Lake trailhead another
night, and called her again from the Otto’s Cache Picnic Area. This
time I was successful. The phone call ended at 9:43 and I headed back
to camp, and after I arrived there, I snacked on apricots and almonds,
which I opened up the first time while listening to some Matchbox Twenty.
At 10:00, things were looking good for a sunrise, but how quickly that
can change.
