For additional, more comprehensive material than I could ever provide on the trails I have listed below as well as on other Colorado 4WD trails, I highly recommend 4WD Adventures: Colorado (pictured below) by Peter Massey and Jeanne Wilson (or their three regional volumes of the state) and Guide to Colorado Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails by Charles Wells, who has two volumes which cover the southern (pictured below) and northern part of the state. Both series compliment each other very well.

The ratings I have posted are using Colorado's 10-scale.

Also, I should mention that scenic trails outweigh the technical stuff for me in terms of my preference and what I have driven to this point. My 4Runner is capable enough for all but only eight trails (more extreme in nature) in the state, which is good enough for me, especially since those last ones offer no additional scenic value over their adjacent roads. Over time, I'm sure I'll have reports here that will be the most challenging for my vehicle, but until then, it's not the destination, but rather, the journey for me.

I have a lot of updates that should be added, both adding or replacing galleries in the existing write-ups and adding a number of trails I don't have listed yet. I'll work on them as time and motivation allow.

Let's get going!
